SESSION ONE 06/06/2009

The journey has begun.  With twelve charter and district high schools participating, the Oakland Inquiry Project began its effort to discover the best that "Early College" has to offer at the scenic Jack London Aquatic Center.  From American Indian Public Charter High, who has been offering classes to its students on the Merritt College campus for the past three years, to Coliseum College Prep Academy (CCPA), a growing 6-12 district school that is contemplating the role Early College will play in their future Senior Institute.  The group began to establish its norms, build trust, and setting goals through a strong agenda facilitated by Greg Peters of SFCESS.  The next two sessions begin an engagement with the local Peralta Community College system, and high school students who have experienced an Early College programs to see just what's working and what's not.

    OAKLAND INQUIRY PROJECT

The OAKLAND INQUIRY PROJECT is a project that engages ten Oakland school leaders from charter schools and District schools in a sustained, facilitated inquiry project for one year.  The inquiry will focus on perfecting or initiating an Early College model of providing access to College courses for all students.  This facilitated inquiry cycle will conclude with a published "Field Guide" of recommendations, tips, and strategies for use by other schools and school leaders as a resource when seeking to implement a similar innovative practice.
